Our sisters arrived from Spain and landed in Ahmedabad on 11th Dec 1954. The sisters began with their ministries. And after some time the fathers of Gomptipur requested the sisters to open a dispensary and offered a small room for the same. As the news of the sisters opening a dispensary spread slowly patients started trickling in with all sorts of ailments, big and small. The people experienced the humanness and the loving care of the sisters and soon were being called ‘Mother’ for they experienced the motherly care of the sisters.

On 6th of August 1956, the sisters were able to construct a maternity home which was named as, ‘St. Mary’s Nursing Home’. It began with seven beds and now we have been blessed with 30 Beds, Well Equipped Operation Theatre and Medical and Pediatric OPD every day.

Pregnant women had been always at risk as most of them suffer from Anemia and malnourishment and very often the sisters came across cases of maternal and infant mortality. Looking at the grim situation and the need of the time and keeping up with the charism of our Congregation of catering to the needs of women and children, the Nursing Home was begun; it was a blessing to the people all around. Thousands of women since then have been taken care and thousands of children have been brought into the world through the loving care rendered by the sisters and the staff of St. Mary’s Nursing Home or rather in ‘Mother’s Davakhana’ a name synonym with our Nursing Home
